The Town of Wellesley proudly received designation as a Purple Heart Town, honoring residents who earned the military decoration. George Washington established the Purple Heart in 1782 to recognize service members wounded or killed by enemy action, making it America’s oldest military award. Our town recognizes Purple Heart recipients every Aug. 7 by flying the Purple Heart flag at Town Hall.
